& Answers
- When will the next conference take place?
-
The TEDxPhiladelphia team is planning a conference for the Spring of 2014. The date will be announced this Fall.
- How are speakers selected for the conference?
-
Like past TEDxPhilly conferences, TEDxPhiladelphia is on the lookout for some of the best and brightest speakers and performers that can express the 2014 conference theme: New Workshop of the World. TEDxPhiladelphia has a rolling nomination process: Anyone can nominate a speaker or performer, or self-nominate (don’t be shy!). All applications will be carefully reviewed by the Curatorial & Production Committee and a group of advisors. The application period for the 2014 conference is now open. Apply here.
- Is the same team involved in producing this event?
-
The new team behind TEDxPhiladelphia will pick up where TEDxPhilly left off, building on the vision set by the organizers, speakers, and attendees of the first two conferences.
The dedicated crew behind TEDxPhilly produced conferences in 2010 and 2011. In the Spring of 2013, a new organizing committee was formed to produce the forthcoming 2014 conference. The current TEDxPhiladelphia Curatorial & Production Committee includes co-organizers Emaleigh Doley, Aimée Knight (2014 license holder) and Thaddeus Squire, with Emily McManus, David Gloss, Maori Karmael Holmes, and Christopher Plant.
Several of our team members have worked to produce past TEDx events. Emaleigh Doley was a member of the organizing team for the 2011 TEDxPhilly conference; Aimée Knight founded and produced TEDxSJU at Saint Joseph’s University in 2011-13; and Emily McManus, who is the editor of TED.com, was a member of the TEDxPhilly organizing team in 2010-11.
- Where can I find information about past TEDx conferences in Philly?
-
Watch TEDx Talks from past TEDxPhilly conferences on YouTube and explore the speaker rosters for 2010 and 2011. As the premiere TEDx conference in the Philadelphia region, TEDxPhilly programs offered an interactive, immersive experience for all participants, from speakers to attendees to sponsors. The first conference was held November 18, 2010, at the Kimmel Center for Performing Arts, guided by the theme Right Here, Right Now. The 2011 conference examined vast interpretations of the theme The City and was held at Temple University’s Performing Arts Center on November 8, 2011. We’re looking forward to building the New Workshop of the World for 2014!
